Jessica Bratton | Photographer
Jessica Bratton is an editorial and commercial photographer that specializes in studio lighting and creative concepts. She’s been a professional photographer for the last 10 years, simultaneously studying photography and video editing at the Art Institute of Raleigh - Durham and receiving her BFA in 2014. She spent the next 7 years of her career building and growing an in-house media department for a touring dance competition company, creating 95% of all the print and digital assets, as well the promotional materials. She’s now free of the 9-5, and has established herself as a full-time freelance artist.
In her youth, it was Jessica's dream to become a comic book artist, but after constant discouragement from family and school counselors, she stopped drawing and pursuing art for many years, until age 25, when she finally stopped caring what people thought about her career choices.
Her inspirations are a fun blend of Tim Burton, movie scores, pop culture, and many things from her childhood. But what truly motivates her to continue art is raw passion, and the fact that she was able to prove her family and elders wrong, and create her own path in life.
For anyone in a similar predicament, Jessica’s best advice is to: “Stop comparing yourself and your career timeline to other photographers, put your blinders on and keep moving forward. Stay disciplined in your craft and practice, practice, practice”.
